Train timetabling with passenger data and heterogeneous rolling stocks circulation on urban rail transit line

Abstract The planning process in urban rail transportation can be split into several stages, including line planning, timetabling, rolling stock scheduling and so on. outcome of a stage provides inputs or constraints to the subsequent ones. However, while output good optimal at each stage, it rarely considers global quality for overall process. Furthermore, problems tackled phase often use more aggregate representation reality, achieve general overview. An integrated approach, complex solve, may mitigate gap between solution different stages validation plan would still required before its implementation practice. In this paper, we focus on optimization train timetabling circulation transit with time-based origin-destination-dependent passenger travel demand heterogeneous stocks. aim is generate comfortable timetable passengers an efficient operators. objective minimize total waiting time costs operators, regarding movements, boarding alighting, available stocks their capacity are considered. A mixed integer linear programming model formulated solved by iterative approach. Computational experiments performed Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 verify efficiency effectiveness proposed solving method. With respect CPLEX, results show approach has advantages both computation quality.
